A 916air visit starts with a diagnostic, not a pitch. Send the symptom, your city, and how urgent it feels through the request form. We come back with timing. Urgent no-cooling and no-heat calls go first in the queue. We do not publish a same-day window or a 24/7 promise we cannot keep when the valley is in a heat wave.
On site, the visit measures the system instead of guessing from the thermostat. That usually means the electrical side — capacitor, contactor, voltage — the refrigerant circuit, coil condition, airflow, filter, and the obvious duct problems, plus the thermostat and controls. You get a plain-language explanation of what failed, not a part name and a shrug.
Then the options go in writing: repair the failed part, repair plus a related weakness, or replace when age, repair cost, refrigerant, and comfort math actually support it. Who issues it depends on the address: incorporated cities run their own building departments, while unincorporated communities such as Carmichael and Fair Oaks go through Sacramento County. As of October 6, 2026, SMUD lists heat pump rebates of $3,000 for a gas-to-electric HVAC conversion with a variable-stage heat pump, $2,000 with a two-stage heat pump, and $1,000 for electric-to-electric, installed by a SMUD Contractor Network contractor — verify current terms. Do you push replacements?
No. 916air diagnoses first and recommends replacement only when age, repair cost, refrigerant, ducts, and comfort math support it. Options come in writing either way.
How fast can you come out for a no-cooling call?
Urgent no-cooling calls are prioritized in scheduling. Send the address and symptoms through the request form and we will come back with timing. Yes. HVAC change-outs require a permit, and the jurisdiction depends on where you live — city hall for most incorporated cities, the county for unincorporated communities.
